Learn about the Senses at Outschool!

I am so excited to share some news with you all! I have been hired as a teacher for Outschool!

If you haven’t heard of it, it is an online company that offers a wide variety of classes for children by a wide variety of teachers! There are classes on almost anything. Your child can learn to draw, learn to read, learn another language, learn about bugs, learn history, and so much more. I encourage you to look around and see what might interest your child. Especially with the restrictions regarding Covid-19, now is the time to turn to unique learning opportunities. Here is my profile! See you soon!

These are the 2 classes I currently have available:

“Regulate and Get Ready for…” The Day / Bed

THE DAY

Your learner will focus in on his body and what his senses are telling him. Then, we will do some proprioceptive and vestibular activities to activate the body.

By doing this, he will learn to regulate himself and his body will be more ready to start his day.

This is a very short class, intended to be part of your morning routine! So take it as many times as you like. Come as you are – in pajamas, grumpy from not enough sleep, while you are eating breakfast, etc. This class is to help your preschooler/kindergartner get ready for the day.

BED

Your learner will focus in on his body and what his senses are telling him. Then, we will do some proprioceptive and vestibular activities to calm the body and get ready for bed.

By doing this, he will learn to regulate himself and his body will be more ready to sleep.

This is a very short class, intended to be part of your nightly routine! So take it as many times as you like. Come as you are – in pajamas, angry that it is almost bedtime, while you are eating dinner, etc. This class is to help your preschooler/kindergartner get ready for bed.

Please note – these classes are interactive, but don’t worry if your learner is shy or even nonverbal.

How Many Senses? The Extra 3

Your learner will be introduced to the 8 sensory systems of their body: sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch, proprioceptive, vestibular, and interoceptive. We will explore what each system feels like and how to help our body feel better when one system isn’t working quite right. This is a great class for all children to learn the basics of their bodies as well as self-regulation.

Classes Coming Soon to Outschool…

I am constantly working on creating more learning opportunities to share on Outschool.

I will be having a series on the 8 senses, to tie in the 8 Senses series on this blog (Introduction, Proprioceptive). I will offer it to younger children for an introduction to their bodies and how to regulate themselves, as well as to older children who will learn some of the scientific aspects of the senses.

I will be offering courses on disability awareness for elementary and junior high age children.

Lastly, I will be offering a series of “Introduction to Psychology” courses for junior high age children. I remember taking Psychology in high school, and being absolutely fascinated.

I am so excited to share these courses through Outschool with you.
